MWSA Review

This book is a 52-week “course” in leadership using examples from the 250-year history of America, written by a retired U.S. Navy senior Petty Officer. It is “faith -based,” but the only real evidence of this is a Bible quote at the beginning of each chapter, appropriate to its theme.

The content is well illustrated, and workbook-type exercises are included in numerous chapters. The topics are relevant and insightful for any study of leadership. Complex ideas are explained, making this book a “primer” for someone new to the concept of individual leadership. Commendable is the tackling of some very “tough” leadership topics, like accepting responsibility for bad results, accepting criticism, and handling egos: yours and others.

While beneficial to a reader at any level of leadership experience, this book is also well suited for a homeschooling course for older students, scouting and other youth groups, and for individuals becoming first-tier supervisors, especially managing volunteers in an organization.
