Finding Nuggets of Truth as a Military Writer

What if you studied a particular military General from the American Civil War era and found that the court of public opinion handed down a verdict without reviewing all of the evidence?  Would you ignore the facts and go with the court of public opinion?  Or would you print in your book the dormant facts in which you uncovered?

Dispelling Stereotypes as a Military Writer

Have you ever travelled out of your local region and stayed with family or friends who have a different dialect than you?  Have you noticed that after a while, you begin to pick up a few new fun phrases or words?  Then, when you return home, someone says, "You sound funny."  This has been my experience and, based on media reports, the experience of United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as well.

Listening to the Voice of Reason as a Military Writer

Imagine before the first book is distributed by Ingram Book Company that an historian slams a novel based solely on the subject matter.  Now, imagine that you later find out that the goal of said historian is to "put 19th Century American slaves back in their rightful place in American Civil War military history."  Finally, imagine that the first young adult to read the same book receives an "A" on a school book report.
