Only eighty-seven African-Americans have received the Medal of Honor. This is the story of one of them. Andrew Jackson Smith received his medal in 1991, a full 137 years after his acts of bravery in the Battle of Honey Hill in 1864.
Dispatches is now a quarterly publication that will be available in Kindle and epub editions as well as the online pdf for members. Please encourage your friends and family to purchase the Kindle and epub editions for the low cost of $2.99 per issue. The money generated will be used to provide print editions for military'related institutions such as veterans' homes, VA hospitals and nonprofit organizations.
A new year, change and improvement go together. With the re-launch of Dispatches, we are initiating several changes to guarantee an ongoing publication and to continually improve the overall quality of the articles and photographs.

Because our goals for education and the preservation of history are foremost in our thoughts and in MWSA’s mission statement, we have initiated changes to widen our readership.
